Autumn is coming and that means it is time to prepare for the ski season. While many of us have already been doing lots of training from home since March, now is a good time to change up the routine.
We highly recommend Ski Fit Apps to focus on ski specific training. This program was put together by a physical therapist and athlete in Chamonix who has worked quite a bit with Miles and Liz to keep us healthy and strong in the mountains. It is easy to follow and doesn’t require any special equipment. It can been done in your living room or in your yard.
We highly recommend completing the entire 8 week program before you come to ski with us in the Alps. If you are short on time, he also offers condensed 8-minute workouts (because a short workout is better than none!
Off-piste skiing and ski touring requires you to have a high level of fitness so you can make the most of your trip and enjoy the skiing to the maximum. Sadly you can't buy fitness in a can in the supermarket and it can only be gained by some dedication and hard work!
Keeping your routine varied is a good way to keep it interesting. Work in the gym or at home with the Be Fit App is great for getting your legs and core strong, exactly what you need to enjoy skiing long powder runs. Running, cycling and any other cardiovascular workout will allow you to keep skiing all day.
Make sure you start any new fitness routine slowly and build up to more hours or weight to avoid any injury. If you can exercise 3 - 5 times a week for a minimum of an hour each time, ideally with some longer runs or cycles or maybe you play a team sport at least one a week; you will be well on your way to a great level of fitness.
Don't be afraid to seek advise from someone at your local gym or see a physical therapist to help keep your body in good working order. Sports massage is a great way to ease any niggles you may have and help to prevent injury. Eating well and keeping well hydrated is also important to general well being and will keep you body and mind functioning in the build up to your ski trip.
